Jury convicts Bloomfield man of eluding police

Essex County Prosecutor Paula T. Dow announced that a jury convicted a Bloomfield man who had been charged with eluding police, stemming from a 2005 police pursuit of his speeding souped-up Honda Civic that ultimately caused the death of a 13-year-old pedestrian.

McCarthy, Dems hold on in Bloomfield

Mayor Raymond J. McCarthy, seen at right, and three Democratic candidates for at-large council seats cruised to victory tonight. McCarthy beat Republican John Lazar Jr. 3,708 to 2,933. Council candidates Patricia Barker, Patricia Spychala and Bernard Hamilton easily beat their Republican counterparts.

Essex prosecutor: Bloomfield teacher sexually abused student, 10

Bomb scare shuts Bloomfield High School temporarily

A bomb scare called into the New Jersey State Police caused the full evacuation of Bloomfield High School today for more than an hour. No bomb was found in the school, said Frank Digesere, superintendent of schools. Here are some photos taken at the scene this afternoon.

Bloomfield Township Hall upgrades

BLOOMFIELD — It’s been a long time coming, but the steps outside Township Hall are almost complete, Mayor Raymond McCarthy said today. The new front includes a handicap ramp, which means Township Hall will now be ADA complient.
