In a tight race in the 36th Legislative District, the Star-Ledger projects Sarlo will beat Republican challenger Mike Guarino. As of 11 p.m., Sarlo leads Guarino 13,841 votes to 10,380 votes.

McCarthy, Dems hold on in Bloomfield
Mayor Raymond J. McCarthy, seen at right, and three Democratic candidates for at-large council seats cruised to victory tonight. McCarthy beat Republican John Lazar Jr. 3,708 to 2,933. Council candidates Patricia Barker, Patricia Spychala and Bernard Hamilton easily beat their Republican counterparts.

McDonough-led Dems take 3 of 4 seats in Harrison
Caroline Mandaglio, Michael Dolaghan and Francisco Nascimento each won seats in Harrison tonight, while incumbent Victor Villalta lost his 2nd Ward seat to Maria McCormick, wife of current Councilman Steve McCormick.
It is believed the McCormicks are to be the only husband-wife team to serve on the same elected body in New Jersey.
